At the end of the 1970s he began photographing abandoned and devastated places in Prague; in the 80s, with the help of friends, he organized his first semi-official exhibition. During Normalization he was active in the dissident movement and published in samizdat. After 1989 he worked on the editorial board of the daily Lidové noviny and later for the news services of Czech Television. He was the originator of strategies for domestic and foreign investing whereupon he became an independent investor. He returned to full time photographing several years ago.
